Moving, consists of two things: moving out and moving in, a double bang for your buck. My girlfriend Nev says its one of the five most stressful things to do. Well, seems she was right, I checked the fact online. Well, is weekend I was one stressed puppy. I had made arrangements a month in advance with the utilities: power, phone and cable TV. Just so, everything would be as hassle free as possible. I packed all week while trying to keep up with my schoolwork, a job in itself. I never thought I would say this but thank god, I had two exams on Monday. Two of my instructors said study and gave no assignments. Well, starting early Saturday morning Nev and I began to shuttle boxes to the new apartment. That lasted all day except for a few breaks and a couple of meals. Tedious work indeed. Sunday the shuttling continued until it came time to move the heavier stuff and the big boys had to be called in. Finally, the move was complete. Boxes everywhere and not having a clue which box was which because “I hadn’t marked them”? Oh well, I said to myself, I’ll hook up the TV and watch something to relax! So, I threw a steak on and hooked up the television cable. No signal! Calling the cable people to see what was up (or down) they reported that the technician could not get in, no one home and they could not be back until Tuesday. Funny, I thought, the phone and power people got in just fine! I had everyone scheduled to show up the same day between 8 to 10 am armed with my new landlord’s cell phone number who lived and worked in the same building. Damn, no TV, no online, computer in the corner in pieces. My jaw began to tighten. Thinking on my feet as I do I sprung into action and hooked up the VCR, I had films I could watch. I was hungry and the steak was beginning to crackle so I hurried with the VCR hook-up and popped in cassette, turned the streak over, plopped in the lazy boy and hit play. If was 45 seconds it was a long time. Blink blink the power goes off! Bangor has a power outage! So here I am sitting in my new living room in the dark not knowing where anything was, computer in the corner in pieces, steak had stopped sizzling and was still uncooked, no lights or TV, jaw aching! I pushed back in the lazy boy and laughed to myself, Great new place.
Update, Tuesday October 05, 2004 3:41 pm.
Cable guy was just here, seems the cable leading into my apartment is broken somewhere in the walls. Can’t fix it today. We’ll have to schedule and time to run a new cable…..Go figure!!!!!
