CHARLY, OBJECT OF AFFECTION

When I look to my right, my buddy Charly is always there. Ready and able, perched in it’s stand, like a soldier at attention waiting to be called into duty. Charly is my custom acoustic guitar. Fading gold hardware, mother of pearl inlays, ebony fret board, richly toned mahogany and spruce. Most importantly, a voice like an Angel. I don’t remember exactly how long we’ve been together now, bi-sentennial year, I think ? I’ll just say since we were both young and good lookin’. No matter, we’ve become good friends over the years, soul-mates you could say.
Charly has served me well in many ways. Been a lot of places with me too, we work well together.
When I’m sad, Charly is there to help cheer me up. When I’m happy, she helps me spread the news. When I get nostalgic, she helps me remember. Damn, sometimes when things were going as exactly as I would have them, she’d even help put dinner on the table. Passionate friend indeed !
Our latest travels were afar. In May, we strummed on the beach on Waikiki, Ohau and laid back on the sea wall in Lahaina, Maui. We’ve jammed with Mike Bolton on New Haven Green, that was before he got to big for himself. She was even there when I met my wife. We’ve played countless gigs, in as many clubs and dive joints. We’ve lived in Connecticut, Florida, California and now Maine and who knows where next. Shoot for the stars and hit the moon will be fine, as long as it's Charly and Me !

Ron--have you considered my ENG 162 Creative NonFiction for next semester. The limit is 16! You and Charly would fit right in, and the course ain't no dive joint!
